If I leave the unit before the end of the month, is the rent prorated?

Whether the rent is prorated when you leave before the end of the month depends on the country:

• In France, Spain and Switzerland, any month started is due in full: the contract runs for an indefinite period with a one-month notice, and only the first month is generally prorated based on your move-in date. To stop billing, you must also actually vacate the unit (remove your padlock and sign the exit report); otherwise billing continues.
• In Germany, after the first full month you benefit from maximum flexibility: you can end your contract at any time with an 8-day notice, and you then only pay for the current month on a prorated basis.
